Dear Selection Committee,
As a Health Educator with the Student Health Services at California State University, Long Beach (CSULB), I have had the privilege to supervise Roger Medina as an intern in our Peer Health Education program. Mr. Medina began interning with us in August 2020 for his final semester in his undergraduate program. We have been so impressed with everything he has contributed to our team and know that he will be a strong asset to his future position. As a Peer Health Educator, interns work alongside staff Health Educators to assist with the development and implementation of health programs as well as social marketing materials. While working fully online during a pandemic, Roger was assigned a very unique and new task; he was asked to create a series of videos based on the mental health curriculum, Behind Happy Faces. Roger accepted this challenge with enthusiasm and challenged himself to learn the skills needed to complete this assignment. Roger experimented with various video editing and graphic design platforms while putting his health education skills into practice. He received feedback weekly and accepted all constructive criticism with grace and a willingness to improve. Roger Medina has proven to be very reliable in meeting his commitments and maintained professionalism throughout his internship. He shows great initiative and works well with minimal supervision. He was punctual to every meeting and demonstrated effective, clear communication with the health education staff throughout his internship.
